Set against an autumnal backdrop, ‘Lens’ explores the tension between change and stasis, within an age of hyper-individualism. While seasons shift, the world at large remains locked in a recursive loop - mirroring a system of algorithmic feedback, where socially and culturally, nothing truly new emerges. As society becomes digitally atomized, we no longer engage with each other through shared narratives, but rather through predetermined fragments of information. With algorithms tailoring everything to our personal preference, we are led towards a frictionless existence where discomfort is smoothed away. The act of choice has become meaningless, as a digital spectre shapes our desires before we articulate them. ‘Lens’ reflects upon this duality of our present moment: an increasingly chaotic external world versus the refined, internal reality of the individual. Ultimately, in our frenetic chase of total autonomy and self-optimization, we lose sight of the things that make life meaningful—community, uncertainty, and transformation.
